COL EXPERIENCE TOUR

Our spring camp will be based in Puerto Pollensa in the north of Mallorca from 23rd to 30th May 2021

4 Days Fri to Tuesday £350:00

7 Days Fri to Friday £750:00

We have pulled together an experienced team to host you - we understand what's important to you in a cycling holiday and any concerns you might have along the way, and are here to make sure you get the most out of your cycling break.

We will take you on a stunning exploration of this cycling paradise, giving you the opportunity to challenge yourself on the climbs, get some group riding experience, and have plenty of fun along the way.

We recognize (and love the fact!) that there's strong riders out there, and understand that there is a proportion of us who are still at the early stages of the cycling journey. This camp is aimed at those who want to work on improving group riding skills, pick up top tips on various aspects of cycling (e.g. Pacing, climbing and descending) and are ready to work on building overall fitness and speed in time for the season.

We've put together a sample programme of what to expect (note this is subject to change based on weather and group requests, but gives you an idea!), and we promise to take you on some top rides, give you the chance to meet some new cycling companions and pick up some handy tips.

WHO’S IT FOR

Our routes are carefully designed ensuring you experience the best of the island’s scenery and terrain, and we go to great lengths to minimize any repetition of routes. Whilst we include many of the popular destinations, we pride ourselves in taking you there via the quieter roads that are less frequented by cars and cyclists, and we also explore some less well known but no less scenic or challenging locations.

How far do you usually cycle each day?

This depends on which group you choose to go with. The steady group does 50-80 miles per day (with 1 or 2 cafe stops). The other groups typically do 70-100 miles per day with 1 cafe stop.

We will also incorporate some early morning Sea Swimming and maybe some Brick Runs if it suits you, but this Trip will be primarily Cycling focused.

Climbing, descending And Gearing.

Over the coming months we will send & guide you through all the necessary information that will

help you get the best out of your week of cycling in Mallorca. We will also guide and advise you

whilst out on the road, climbing, descending and gearing.

An Insight into Some of the Mountains that you may Climb….

Coll de Femenia - Main entry point into the eastern Tramuntana. Another scenic climb, this one starts approximately 10km down a partly shady road out of old town Pollença.

The Descent: Sweeping, swooping corners allow you to maintain a good speed down this exhilarating descent. If you do manage to look around, Pollença, Port de Pollença, Alcudia and Port Alcudia are all visible at times as are dotted fincas way down in the valley. The appearance of the occasional stray goat has been known to cause additional adrenaline rushes.

The Climb: Category 2 climb, 7.6 km long with an average gradient of 6%. Start height is 110m (gradual uphill all the way from Port de Pollença, about 20km to gain the 110m). Maximum height is 515m, so the total elevation gained is 405m.

Coll de Sa Batalla - Very scenic climb that starts in the town of Caimari, the average grade is 5.2 %, the length 7.9 km with a starting height of 166 m and a height at the top of 584 m. All in all an elevation gain of 418 m with a maximum gradient of 12 %. If you had to ride the same climb every day of your stay, this may be the one you would choose.

The Descent: Excellent surface, sweeping descents.

The Climb: Lots of overhanging trees on this beautiful climb that never gets too steep and has a level section in the center to allow even the fittest amongst us to enjoy the scenery a little more.

At the stop is a nice restaurant with excellent cake and coffee plus more substantial fare if you need a meal stop.

Cap de Formentor - While technically not a climb on its own (the last 500m, switch backing rise to the lighthouse notwithstanding), the whole ride out from the Port de Pollença is worthy of inclusion – and takes in the Coll de la Creueta as an hors d’oeuvre.

From the bottom of the Creueta descent, there’s one road out as it follows the spit of land to the lighthouse viewpoint, meandering and rolling its way up to the cliff face.

There are three distinct climbing sections punctuated by mini descents, before a slightly longer descent and then the final rise to the Cap.

The route out and back is characterised by stunning ‘endless’ views out to sea, around 1000m of climbing (both ways) packed into less than 40km of riding, and a unique photo opportunity at the lighthouse itself. There’s also a café there, so need we say more?

Sa Calobra

The Sa Calobra climb, the ascent from the village of Sa Calobra to Coll dels

Reis, is one of the main reasons why cyclists come to Mallorca.

With about 7% average gradient and less then 10km of climbing, Sa Calobra

is not as challenging as the giants of the Alps and the Pyrenees, but it is an

extraordinary climb indeed and certainly the most famous one in Mallorca.

Its emblematic 26 hairpin bends, breathtaking views and spine-tingling

descent have captured the hearts of many cyclists.

The first 2 kilometers are relatively ‘soft’, which may give you the false

impression that you are in for an easy ride. Soon after, a couple of steeper

sections quickly remind you that you need to pace yourself because there is

a lot more to come. The hardest part of the climb is actually between

kilometers 7 and 8. The gradient reaches more than 10% and if your legs are tired you will really notice it. 9.4km, Average Gradient 7%

This week is about exploring a beautiful location, connecting with like-minded Athletes, challenging yourself in supportive and fun environment and of course indulging in some great food and wine!

This trip is ideal for cyclists who just want to ride at a comfortable pace that’s suits. We can't wait to show you the beauty of Mallorca and why so many riders come to cycle here!
